Schlötter and 3RM – Next-Generation Aluminium Passivation

Innovation, sustainability, and process reliability are key drivers in modern surface technology.
Against this backdrop, Schlötter, an electroplating specialist, and 3RM, a Diener & Rapp
Company, have collaborated to develop a new generation of aluminium passivation.
Plant Technology
In 2023, Schlötter fully designed, engineered and commissioned a fully automated passivation
plant for 3RM. The plant ensures maximum efficiency, flexibility, and integration capability
thanks to its state-of-the-art process control system. It provides the technical foundation for
both established methods and novel developments such as SLOTOPAS AL 4270.

New Process: SLOTOPAS AL 4270

With SLOTOPAS AL 4270, Schlötter is setting new standards in aluminium passivation. The
process has been specifically developed for applications that require the highest levels of
sustainability, quality, and process reliability.
Key features include:

  • Completely chromium(VI)-free.
  • Excellent corrosion resistance.
  • Full compatibility with standard painting and bonding processes.
  • Proven performance in multi-stone impact, stamp adhesion, and cross-cut tests.
  • REACH compliance and regulatory security.
  • Easy integration into existing production lines.

Results in Production

From the outset SLOTOPAS AL 4270 has consistently met the stringent requirements for the
corrosion protection of bare aluminium surfaces as well as painted or bonded substrates. The
results confirm its industrial suitability in terms of stability, economic efficiency, and process
safety.

The collaboration between Schlötter and 3RM showcases the potential of combining advanced
plant technology, innovative chemistry and practical application expertise to deliver sustainable
and future-proof solutions. SLOTOPAS AL 4270 is a next-generation passivation system that
combines ecological sustainability, high-quality standards, and maximum process reliability.
